SAKURAO JAPANESE DRY GIN – UNIQUE LIMITED EDITION -ORIGINAL
14 types of botanical’s from Hiroshima
SAKURAO GIN is produced in a German-made, copper hybrid still. Sakurao Distillery utilize a hybrid distillation method that simultaneously incorporates the steeping method in which distillation is performed after immersing botanical’s in a clear-tasting base spirits, as well as the vapor method in which botanical’s are placed in a basket that is installed in the distillation path, and flavors are extracted from alcohol vapor passing through the botanical’s. This hybrid method is the best way to extract the flavors of each and every botanical.

COCKTAIL RECIPES

Our botanicals produce a wide variety of aromatic notes, including citrus such as the florid-smelling lemon and the rich fragrance of yuzu, as well as aromas from Japanese cypress and oyster shells. Our gin also uses cherry blossoms, known as sakura in Japanese, which is the symbol of Sakurao, where our distillery is located.
The fusion of a citrus-like aroma with the traditional taste of gin is the most distinctive feature of our original gin.

Nose: Best I can describe it is a Bombay Saphire with a unique twist in a few ways. Theres herbs and spices here that lend a more grassy overall tone to the drink on the nose. Having seen that some of the botanicals include Japanese Cypress and green tea it makes sense Theres some yuzu citrus in the main body along with the other sweeter citrus notes and the ethanol sneaks up on you and peaks at the end for a little pep of spice on the finish. Apparently the finish is also modulated with Aka Shiso (red perilla) which might explain its slightly different spicyness and finishing note than a typical juniper forward gin.

Palate: Theres a mellow initial almost sweetness to it but with an oily but structured body (probably the cypress) it leads main body tilted in favour of a spicy citrus along with the juniper and ends with a bit of ginger lingering spicyness and and antiseptic herbal remedy like note. Theres alot to unpack here for people more experienced at gin tasting than I am.

Solid and unique gin, might lend itself to some interesting cocktails.
